My hilarious process

pretend i showed you sketches and inking blues and then inked lines.

deal?

ok!

colouring process. aka. why i am a big fat computer cheater.

here is where i started, with flats and a couple textures.
so that's ...Ok. the funny part is when i turn off textures.
HA HA HA! lols for real over here.

so i think it's kind of ugly anyways, and went through a bunch of changes where i agonized over the colour of the HEADFARTS before i got to shading, which is basically done with sets fo grunge brushes i have accumulated, because, i am awesome and lazy.

and finally we end up here:

obviously this will change after tuesday. but right now i like it.

Singapore by Tom Waits.

okay that is officially the weirdest video for a song i've ever seen. thanks, internet. wtf?

Piece number one!
What's he Building

built in an infernal house with broken pieces and barely held together.

Listen to a live version Here it's a little bit faster than the studio copy i've been using.

Dying with no one noticing, leering, overbearing, cold, friends.

This journey is through hell and through creativity. Unpacking the boxes in your head, showing you what that animal has been doing to you.

Heaven And Hell

Fanexpo is tomorrow!!!

I'm a excited, a little scared, and exhausted. I don't have as much stuff as i expected i would, but time management, i fail at it!

These are two skateboards i lovingly painted in acrylics for this! I spent probably two days with my best friend sanding down the backs of these to take off the logos on them, and then two days spray gessoing them. spray gesso. oh. oh. so smooth and beautiful to paint on... ahhhhhh.

painting anything is especially difficult when you have two cats, by the way.

Tomorrow morning, i embark upon my very first convention artist journey!

I Wanna Do Bad Things With You

Thursday, August 20, 2009
Yay! Just finished this tonight, and i actually have progress to show for it, so that's exciting!

Here is where I started. This drawing is probably actually over a year old, or so, but i kept it because i really like the anatomy and the pose a lot. I said I'd finish it one day! So one day, i took it down and scanned it in.... It's a little hard to see. Blue Col-Erase, and at this time i was using 11x14 sketch books
So, after scanning it in at a nice dpi, i go ahead and ink it. I use a tablet, and old old old bluetooth wacom graphire. it's really really beat up. lol. For inking in photoshop, i like to use one of the calligraphy brushes, it's actually a default, surprisingly. It's the "45", it's an angle i like, and i set the size and angel to jitter with pressure. I like this because i can SORT of emulate the feeling i get from using nibs, where it gets nice and fat if i push down and it stays nice and thin if i don't.
I didn't really take alot of screens during progress, but I've got this. I lay flats down for each section, and i usually create seperate folders, each holding the "palette" for that specific section. shading is done on a seperate layer, using this awesome brush i got from somewhere google spat out. It blends the back and foreground colours together. i likes.

And here it is, lookin a little teeny, but ready to be printed out for fan expo! :D

I'm hoping to do similar pinups of both his lovely little brothers as well. don't forget! clickee pictures for bigger pictures!

buttons! yay! I made ten designs, for..i dunno. so there can be like 10 of each. which sounds dumb but......................... that way there can be lots to choose from. also, i can make cheaper little packages of five or whatever.

yes, that is photoshop elements. no, this is not my computer. this computer IS however, hooked up to a gorgeous Canon 9000 which prints the most beautiful things i have ever seen. This is probably the only printer i've used that prints red. RED. REAL RED. it's so satisfying.

extras!

so far, i think they're pretty rad. I have plans to do a matching blue + white set with the cassidy screen i have ready to burn. i'm kind of worried by how dark it is, being like.... black and everything. but, i like it and i think it meshes with me. besides, it's for the con and for after until i can afford business cards from a professional print shop lol!

Germany!

Saturday, August 15, 2009
One of the first couple pieces I've done for FanExpo! Hetalia, if you've never seen it, is a show that anthropomorphizes countries and their hijinks! it's mostly set during world war 2, and in the beginning features mainly germany, japan, and italy. It's hilarious!! each episode is like, maaaaybe 5 minutes? It totally worth the time to sit down and watch it, if you're into anime even a little bit.

So, i have to do fan art, because fan art is what SELLS, and the first thing that comes to mind, is, (like always) pin ups!!! Hetalia is full of delicious boys and girls! So, First, I present: Germany!

Hurray! More delciousness to follow soon!!

Opening Day!

Finally it dawned on me, that while it was all fine and dandy to post my sketches to my 'elljay', it was friendslocked, and thus, no one new will ever see it. This sad revelation has created this: My Art Blog. Here, I will post all manner of sketches, progress work, and finished pieces.
